Substation maintenance Schedule

In accordance with sound maintenance practices and a need to extend the life of our substation transformers, the PUD will be processing the oil in 4 substation transformers at Hastings, Irondale (Four Corners), Port Ludlow, and Quilcene. These 4 transformers were selected based on the annual oil samples taken in March of this year.

Each transformer holds approximately 4, 000 gallons of highly refined mineral oil. This oil will be filtered and heated to remove the moisture and gasses that have developed over time. The work will take a couple of days per site and should not require outages.

Load from each substation will be moved to adjacent substations prior to processing; this is how we can work without outages. The PUD crews will start moving load Monday, August 11th and continue throughout the week until the four transformers are processed.

By performing this maintenance, the PUD will extend the life of our equipment. This will save the district money in replacement costs and improve the long-term reliability of electric service.
